  • Happy Halloween

Halloween falls on October 31 because the ancient Gaelic festival of Samhain, considered the earliest known root of Halloween, occurred on this day.
In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to praise all saints.
Soon, All Saints' Day incorporated some traditions of Samhain and the evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween.
Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats.
Today’s the day to eat candies and sweets to your heart’s content! Happy Halloween!

  • Ontario Buyers Could Save $130K on HST

The province proposed removing HST on most new homes, combining provincial and federal support to lower purchase costs for eligible buyers across Ontario.
Buyers of new homes priced at $1M or less would receive full relief, with potential savings reaching up to $130K under the proposal.
Homes from $1M to $1.5M would still qualify for the maximum rebate, while higher-priced homes would see relief gradually reduced above that range.
Officials said the measure could add ~8K housing starts in 2027, support up to 21K jobs, and strengthen Ontario's economy through construction activity.
Applications are not open yet; buyers purchasing eligible homes from April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027 can apply after program launch.

  • Canada’s Affordability Recovery Faces 2027 Pressure

Canada's affordability measure improved by under 1 point in Q2 to ~53%, marking the smallest quarterly gain in nearly a year nationally.
Income growth drove the entire Q2 improvement, while home prices and borrowing costs stayed fairly steady across Canada, limiting broader affordability progress.
The economics team warned this recovery was losing fuel because stable prices and steady rates may not last, especially with upward pressure on longer-term rates.
Wage gains and a one-time federal benefit supported households in Late-Q2, yet some Canadian markets still posted their first affordability setback in several quarters.
Looking ahead, higher bond yields, possible 2027 central bank hikes, and rising utility costs could modestly raise ownership expenses as the new year begins.

  • Canada Homes Get Slightly More Affordable

Earlier this year, Canada’s ownership-cost burden reached ~53% of median household income by Late-Q2, improving by ~0.5 points from Late-Q1 nationwide, a slight easing.
Ownership costs stayed mostly stable through Late-Q2, showing affordability improved only modestly and suggesting the national shift came from steady pricing, not a rapid reset.
Within Canada, Vancouver and Toronto led housing-cost declines, while Regina, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg posted modest price gains, showing affordability shifts varied by market.
Calgary and Edmonton were largely flat quarterly, with slight cost easing, yet both stayed above long-term affordability norms, underscoring lingering pressure for local buyers.
Edmonton remained among Canada’s most affordable major markets, but even there buyers faced affordability hurdles that could keep some from entering the market.
